Below, I share classic Sonic plush from around the world! Interestingly, there really aren’t that many classic Sonic plush outside of Japan, this is why I decided not to do a 'UK / USA Classic Sonic Plush' sub category on their own. You can see some classic SEGAWorld Sydney Sonic plush under that category of my site, and also lots of classic mirage / bootleg classic Sonic plush under that section of my website. For now, this page remains surprisingly small.

Sonic The Hedgehog & Tails Plush 1991 / 1992
I’m cheating a little on this one, as this plush has been known to be released in Japan and possibly other countries (but not as common), but it’s MOSTLY known for its wide UK release, so I’ve decided to place it here.
The Sonic plush was released in 1991 to tie in with the hit Sonic the Hedgehog video game. I’m not 100% sure of his origin but I think he could be purchased in video game stores in the early 90’s, and possibly was a pre-order free gift. Sonic’s blue fur was made of a fluffy faux fur material, his peach body was made in velboa material, felt gloves, felt shoes, plastic eyes and the shoe strap was a ribbon.
The following year in 1992, Tails was introduced! Tails was made in a velboa material with felt gloves and shoes and plastic eyes.

Tomy Sonic The Hedgehog & Tails Plush 1991 / 1992
Tomy released their first Sonic plush in 1991! He could be purchased in Toy Stores such as Woolworths, Toys R Us, and even Argos in the early 90’s. The first version of Sonic was larger, with eyes spaced wide apart and admittedly, not as nice looking as the second version. He was made in velboa material with felt eyes and gloves and plastic eyes. He has 3 back quills instead of the usual 2.
In 1992, Tails was released! He was made of the same material as Sonic and looks very similar to the original 1992 Tails plush, only the Tomy Tails is a darker shade of orange and slightly smaller.
Tomy also released a Sonic suction cup variant! This Sonic plush is slightly smaller in size and they have fixed the wide set eyes, suction cup Sonic’s eyes are set in the right place.

PMS Sonic The Hedgehog Plush
Around 1997, PMS released a Sonic plush in 3 sizes- small, medium and large. They could be won out of claw machines in arcades. I can confirm this is true, because in 1998, I won a medium sized PMS Sonic plush out of a claw machine in my local arcade! They were made of very fluffy faux fur material, with felt eyes, gloves and nose. The peach fur and shoes are a velboa material and the straps of the shoes are ribbon, plastic eyes. They didn’t quite get the eyes right on these plush. The medium Sonic has eyes that are too small, and the large Sonic’s eyes are too big.
Around 1997, PMS also released a rather unique Sonic plush! This plush is small, and could be won in those smaller claw machines. He’s made in a crushed velvet material, plastic eyes and has string on his head to hang him.

United States Of America
Dakin Sonic The Hedgehog Plush 1993
In 1993, Dakin released a Sonic plush. He could be purchased in speciality and department stores in the USA. He’s rather small and chubby in design. He’s made in a felt material with flat felt quills and has plastic eyes. They made a regular version, a reversible version where if you turn the plush inside out Sonic curls up into a ball! and in 1994, Dakin released a Sonic plush wearing a Sonic & Knuckles T shirt to tie in with the video game. He could be sent off for when purchased from a magazine.
Caltoy Sonic The Hedgehog & Tails Plush 1993
In 1993, Caltoy released a series of Sonic plush. They came in 5 different variants- a small, medium, an ever so slightly larger boxed version, a talking boxed version, and a life size giant competition prize Sonic. They were made in a faux fur material, peach fur a velboa material, felt flat quills, felt gloves, plastic eyes.
Up until the other day, I always thought there was just one medium (regular sized Caltoy Sonic). But in actual fact, there were two! One was unboxed (see photo 2) and one was ever so slightly larger and boxed (photo 3).
The talking boxed Caltoy Sonic (photo 4) shouts ‘SEGA!’ in Sonic 3D Mega Drive/ Genesis style when you press his tummy, his facial expression, namely his eyes, aren’t so nice looking as the medium Caltoy Sonic’s. This plush not only was released in the USA, he was released in the UK too, but I wanted to include him in this section, as his UK release isn’t widely known, and he fits in better in the Caltoy category.
Then we have the amazing life size giant Caltoy Sonic! He was a competition prize, and could be won in Best Buy stores in presumably a raffle. Each Best Buy store in the USA at the time, around 1993, were given a giant Caltoy Sonic to offer as a competition prize. He was never available to be purchased in stores.
Lastly, they also made a Tails medium and slighter larger boxed version! Tails is a unique plush, because he’s one of the only plush to have been made in the style of his Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog appearance with darker orange fur. He’s made of fluffy faux fur material with extra fluffy bangs and tails! he has plastic eyes and felt hands.

Avon Sonic The Hedgehog Bath Time Plush
In 1995, Avon realised a Sonic plush with a red rubber ring (photo needed!), which could be ordered out of their catalogue along with a small assortment of other items. He looks very similar to the Dakin Sonic plush and is made in a terrycloth material and plastic eyes. His material meant he was suitable to go in water, for bath time!
Denny's Fastfood Sonic The Hedgehog Underground & Knuckles Plush 2000
The American fast food chain Denny’s, had a Sonic Underground promotion in the year 2000. A Sonic and Knuckles plush were available to be purchased at $1.99 each. Both plush are made in a felt material, and Sonic has a medallion around his neck.
Brazil
Brazil Sonic The Hedgehog & Knuckles Plush 1994
Brazil saw the release of a very rare Sonic & Knuckles plush, that came out around the time of the game’s release in 1994. Not much is known about the origins of this plush, but I would imagine he would have been a preorder bonus, or could be ordered out of a magazine perhaps. He looks to be made in a fluffy faux fur material, peach fur a velboa material, flat felt quills with plastic eyes and a felt T shirt. He even has suction cups on his hands so he could be stuck on windows!
Brazil Tec Toy Sonic The Hedgehog Plush
In the early 90’s, Brazilian company Tec Toy released a set of Sonic plush, very similar to the Japanese 1991 ‘Twix’ Sonic. But this time they came in 4 different sizes! Not much is known about these plush, but I’m guessing they could be purchased in shops in Brazil, in the early 90’s. They are made of a faux fur material, with felt eyes, nose, gloves and shoe soles and faux fur shoes. Sonic has one single back quill instead of two. Some plush came with white dots for eyes, others did not.
