Sonic Figures & Statues
Life Size Sonic Statue
My one and only Sonic statue! This statue is life size, I'm 5'5 and he's just a bit taller. He was rescued from a skip and was in very poor shape, missing a nose, cracked in several places, terrible chipped paintwork, etc. It was a real risk purchasing him on eBay, and everyone thought I was crazy. But he was my ultimate grail. It was my goal to end the year 2017 with a Sonic statue in my collection, and that dream was fulfilled in November of that year! I had him professionally restored, and now he looks as good as new! I hope to add some more Sonic statues to the collection someday.
Australian SEGAWorld Sydney Sonic Figures
SEGAWorld Sydney was a large Amusement arcade which opened in the Summer of 1997, sadly it's no longer around. They made a variety of different merchandise, all of which could be purchased in the gift shop and on their online store. Sally Acorn and Adventure's of Sonic the Hedgehog style Dr. Robotnik was among their unique merchandise range. They made various figures- bendy figures which I have the complete set of, which includes Sonic, Sally Acorn and Dr. Robotnik, sipper cup figures which include Sonic, Tails, Sally Acorn and Dr. Robotnik, and a large Sonic figure.
Classic Japanese SEGASONIC Figures
During Sonic's hayday in the early 1990's, Japan released various figures and keychains as part of their SEGASONIC The Hedgehog range. They're quite hard to find nowadays, some I'm still discovering to this day! But they all have decent quality sculpts. I would really love to expand on this collection someday.
Modern Japanese Sonic Figures
With Sonic's decline in Japan in recent years, very few figures are produced, or memorabilia in general. However on big anniversaries, Japan bring out a new Sonic statue to mark the milestone, and they're usually top quality.
British Sonic Figures
There's very little in the way of UK exclusive Sonic figures, we've always had the likes of Jazwares and Tomy hit our shelves more than anything. But I have tried to gather some that I think were exclusive to the UK nonetheless.
American Sonic Figures
Much like the UK, American exclusive Sonic figures are extremely scarce. So here's a showcase of the small handful of USA exclusive Sonic figures I could think of.
Classic Tomy Sonic Figures
Back in the 1990's, Tomy were the leading range for Sonic figures. They made a variety of figures, including Badniks and a Metal Sonic! Nowadays, boxed Tomy 90's Sonic figures can reach a decent sum of money and are becoming harder to find in recent years.
ReSaurus Sonic Figures
Below we have the ReSaurus Sonic figures, based on the Sonic Adventure video game! The first series were released in 1999 and included was Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. Series two were released in 2001 and included a skiing Sonic, Amy Rose, Big and E-102 Gamma. A larger 12" Sonic was also made. I always found the sculpts a bit... off, especially the eyes, and they tend to gather this weird green dust-like stuff (both my boxed and loose ReSaurus Sonic figures have this), but at the time, they were the first true set of Sonic figures, so the appearance didn't really matter. It was just great to finally have a set of Sonic figures! Nowadays they can reach a pretty penny, especially series two.
Toy Island Sonic Figures
In 2000, Toy Island released their first Sonic the Hedgehog action figure line, to tie in with the Sonic Adventure video game. They came in the form of 5" figures and included were Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Big and Eggman, 10" talking figures which included Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, and 3" bendy figures which included Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose, Big and Eggman. They later re-released the same figures in Sonic X packaging in 2004, and made additional additional lines of Sonic figures based on the Sonic X TV show, up until 2006. The sculpts on these figures varied in quality, some were very good, for example talking Knuckles, 5" Eggman, etc. Yet others looked very off, Sonic and Tails seemed to suffer the worst.
Joyride Sonic Figures
In 2002, Joyride released a trio of Sonic the Hedgehog figures based on the Sonic Adventure 2 Battle video game. They were the only figures to feature Sonic with his soap shoes, and the very first Shadow figure. A Sonic prototype was also made and limited to 500 pieces. Despite this figure being made in such limited quantities, it's price has never shot up hugely, its average price range is between $100-$200. The quality of these figures are fantastic! Such great likeliness to the characters, and Sonic is among my top 5 favourite Sonic figures of all time. True perfection!
First4Figures Sonic Figures & Statues
In 2009, First4Figures released their first Sonic the Hedgehog statue, and as of 2018, they are still producing new Sonic statues annually! So far, a classic Sonic, classic Tails, classic Knuckles, classic Super Sonic, Metal Sonic, Eggman, Shadow, modern Sonic, modern Super Sonic, Sonic Generations classic/modern Sonic, Bi-Plane Sonic and Tails, Silver, 20th Anniversary Sonic and 25th Anniversary Sonic statues have been made, they all vary in size. They come in standard and exclusive editions, and are all limited edition (the exclusives being made in even less numbers than regular). The exclusive statues light up, when batteries are added. The quality of these statues are fantastic, and each year keep getting better and better! First4Figures have made smaller Sonic figures over the years also.
Jazwares Sonic Figures
2008 marked the year Jazwares started producing Sonic the Hedgehog action figures on a regular basis. Production ran until 2014, when Jazwares lost their Sonic license. They released a huge range of Sonic figures, and the sculpts on these figures were incredible, sheer quality and perfection. In my opinion, Jazwares were the best sculpters around, when it comes to Sonic figures. Since their production ended, the Jazwares Sonic figures have started creeping up in price, it's definitely worth picking these figures up before the prices increase even more!
Tomy Sonic Boom Figures
In 2014, Tomy returned to the Sonic action figure market with a range of Sonic Boom figures based on the hit TV show. There were a variety of different sets produced and included all the main characters from the show- Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose, Sticks, Shadow, Metal Sonic, Dr. Eggman, Cubot, Orbot, etc. The sculpts on these figures were great, and very much mirrored Jazwares in quality and design. I was never much of a fan of the Sonic Boom TV show, and as such I never did get round to picking up many of these figures at the time.
Modern Tomy Sonic Figures
In 2016, Tomy continued to produce new Sonic the Hedgehog figure lines (and other Sonic memorabilia) to tie in with Sonic's 25th Anniversary, and as of 2018 are still releasing new ones. Great quality figures, expressions are all good, perfect proportions, Tomy definitely know their stuff when it comes to making decent sculpts!
Kidrobot Blindbox Sonic Figures
2016 brought a new range of 3" vinyl blindbox Sonic figures from Kidrobot. There were 14 to collect, and the complete set is pictured below. And even included the Badniks, which were nice additions! Sculpts were superb, too. I personally have never been a fan of the whole blindbox concept, especially when these boxes costed £15 each and you could end up with the same figure over and over, it's a concept that's both risky, and a waste of money. Some figures had higher chances of being obtained, and others such as the ring and pixel Sonic, had much lower chances. I ended up buying mine in bulk, so I knew what I was getting without wasting a large sum of money. I highly recommend these figures though, they look great on display.
Kidrobot Blindbox Sonic Figure Keychains
Alongside the 3" vinyl figures, Kidrobot also released a range of Sonic figure keychains. There were 18 to collect and came in blind boxes, just like the Sonic vinyl figures. 16 out of the 18 keychains in the set are pictured below, I have the other 2, however I left them out as they aren't a Sonic item (a SEGA Mega Drive and Genesis console). These keychain figures come in a great variety. I love the Sonic poses especially! Now I'm going to admit I'm not a fan of blind boxes, and I purchased 20 in bulk. I was extremely lucky, as I managed to score 16 out of the 18 keychains in one sitting! with only a few duplicates.
Kidrobot Metallic Sonic Figure
Alongside the 3" vinyl figures and figure keychains, Kidrobot also released a "Collectible Vinyl Art" statue, This time not a blindbox (phew!), they made 2 versions of this vinyl art, a regular painted Sonic, and a metallic version. I have the rarer, metallic version, which was limited to 200 pieces worldwide and was a Kidrobot.com exclusive!
Funko Pop! Sonic Figures
Unless you've been living in a cave, these past couple of years, you'll probably know by now that Pop! figures are highly desirable, and everyone and their Mothers collect them. I personally am not a fan of these figures, I think they look ugly, have boring designs, and just can't see why everyone raves about them so much (but this is just my personal opinion, I totally respect many thousands of people feel differently :) ), however, being a hardcore Sonic collector I kind of *have* to pick these up, for collection purposes! The first 3 Sonic Pop! figures were released in 2013 and included were Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. 2017 saw new Sonic Pops being released, and a Super Shadow and Metallic Sonic were added in 2018 (which I have yet to add to my collection). Needless to say, I won't be venturing out to buy non-Sonic related Pop! figures anytime soon!
Feve Sonic Figures
1997 saw the release of a set of 8 Feve Sonic figures, exclusive to France! They were miniature china figures and included in the set were Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Sally Acorn, Flicky, Dr. Robotnik, Grounder and Motobug. Around the time of Sonic X's popularity, Feve made another set of these miniature china figures, and included were Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose, Blaze, Cream, Rouge, Shadow, Espio and Charmy. I've always felt these figures have a classy feel to them! But then France have always been known to make quality memorabilia.
Wacky Wobbler Sonic Figures
2011 saw the release of some 6" Sonic, Tails and Knuckles Wacky Wobbler figures. They had great sculpts and were quite unique!
Lootcrate Sonic Figures
2018 brought a new series of Sonic figures, which were included in monthly Lootcrate boxes. These figures I must say, have fantastic sculpts! Probably the best I've seen, even. The Sonic has such a Sonic Adventure vibe to him! Sadly though, the quality of the figures didn't quite live up to their superior sculpts. The poles that attach the figures/accessories, have a tendency to not fit. I have had two Dr. Eggman figures, and both poles don't fit the figure, no matter how much I try. The ring on the back of shadow also no longer fits the pole. I have heard of many reported incidents of this, and other things like broken pieces, chipped paintwork, etc.
1994 McDonalds Sonic Happy Meal Toys / Figures
1994 saw the very first McDonald's Sonic promotion, to tie in with the hit video game, Sonic the Hedgehog 3! Included was a Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Dr Robotnik/Eggman. The US version of Tails featured pull string which proved to be a danger to children (pictured right) and so the UK release was completely redesigned and was a safer version (pictured left). Dr. Robotnik/Eggman had different sculpts. His Japanese release had him in his in-game design, and the rest of the world received the "Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog" Robotnik sculpt, pictured below.
Sonic Burger King Toys / Figures
The early 90's saw the release of Burger King's first Sonic the Hedgehog promotion. And included were two Sonic's, a Tails and Dr. Eggman. These toys are quite rare and hard to find nowadays, the 1998 Burger King Sonic toys were much more common. I have never even seen any promotional posters, boxes, etc. for these toys in all my years of collecting.
1998 Sonic Burger King Toys / Figures
1998 saw the release of a new set of Burger King Sonic the Hedgehog toys to tie in with the Sonic R video game. Included was a Sonic water game, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Dr. Robotnik water game, and thin Scratch and Grounder type Badniks.
Other Sonic Figures
Just a selection of Sonic figures which don't fit into any other category, or were released internationally.
