Play By Play Sonic The Hedgehog Plush
This plush really is official! Play by Play were a company who exclusively made plush toys for amusement arcade prizes. They could never be purchased in stores and these plushies could be won around European countries. I decided to place Sonic I’m the ‘UK’ category and not Europe, because I have only ever seen him pop up for sale on eBay UK. I’m surprised this plush got approved by SEGA.
FEVA Sonic The Hedgehog X Plush
Between 2003-2005, FEVA released some Sonic X themed plush. They were only available in the UK and could be purchased in toy stores such as Toys R Us and Woolworths. They made a large set of talking plush (when you press their hands). Included in the set were Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. They also released a set of smaller, beanie plush. Included in this set were Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. The beanie versions did not talk. They were made in a velboa material for the fur, felt features, and nylon? for the shoes with plastic eyes.
Impact Innovations Sonic The Hedgehog Plush
In 2007, Impact Innovations released a series of Sonic plush. There was a set 3 Sonic plush that came in a box and included Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. A Dr Eggman was planned but never released. They also made smaller versions of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. They could be purchased in the video game store ‘GAME’ They are made of a velboa material, with felt details and embroidered eyes.
GOSH Sonic X Plush 2007
In 2007, the company GOSH released a series of Sonic X plush that could only be won as prizes in UK amusement arcades for example, out of claw machines and hook-a-duck style fairground attractions, etc. As of 2019, the largest size Sonic plush could still be won on Blackpool pier in a dartboard game! Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Shadow were included in the set. The plushies I think, came in 6 different sizes, with the largest being 40 inches tall! It’s extremely hard to identify all the different sizes so therefor, this photo section isn’t fully complete. They all all made of a felt material with felt features and embroidered eyes.
GOSH Sonic The Hedgehog Plush 2017
In 2017, GOSH Released a couple of new Sonic plush. A small chubby classic Sonic keychain plush, and a smaller classic Sonic keychain plush . They could be purchased in various retail stores, but weren’t too common. I found mine in an independent game shop. They were made entirely of felt material.
In 2017, GOSH also released a large Sonic plush backpack! He could be won in amusement arcades out of certain machines (my local arcade had him as a prize in a ‘cut the string’ machine), however, I can confirm he could also be purchased in retail, also this is rare. I found lots of GOSH Sonic plush backpacks being sold outside a gift shop along Blackpool seafront! He was made in a velboa material with embroidered eyes.

SEGA Amusements Sonic X Plush 2007
Around 2007, SEGA Amusements released some Sonic X themed plush. There was a large set and a rarer smaller set. They could be won as prizes out of claw machines in arcades. Included in the set was Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow and Amy. Both the small and large plush were made in a minky material with plastic eyes.
SEGA Amusements also released an extremely rare MP3 Sonic plush! I am not 100% of this, but I think it was only released in Funland, at London’s Trocadero (formally SEGAWorld London), it could only be obtained by collecting LOTS of tokens, and you had to save the tokens in exchange for prizes. Now typically for big prizes you would have to spend -a lot- of money on arcade machines to collect the tokens, and I would assume MP3 Sonic wouldn’t have just been a few tokens. I can confirm MP3 Sonic was obtainable through collecting tokens at Funland, because I saw him there in person at the time! I asked if I could outright buy him but the staff said no.

SEGA Amusements Sonic The Hedgehog Plush 2013
In 2013, SEGA Amusements re-released the Sonic X plush line, this time without the Sonic X branding, and this time with embroidered eyes! Again, they could only be won out of claw machines in amusement arcades. Included in the set was Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow and Amy. They were made in a minky material with embroidered eyes.
SEGA Amusements Sonic The Hedgehog Plush 2018
In 2018, SEGA Amusements released a new set of Sonic plush. They could only be won out of claw machines in the UK. Included in the set was classic Sonic, modern Tails, Knuckles and Shadow. They were made in like a minky material with embroidered eyes.
Fun4All Sonic The Hedgehog Plush
In 2010, Fun4All released a single Sonic plush, very similar to the Joypolis Sonic plush in Japan. I’m not 100% certain this was a UK exclusive or where you could even obtain one, but I’ve found two of these Sonic plush in the wild- one in a charity shop and the other at a car boot sale, which leads me to believe this might be a UK release plush. He was made in a velboa material, with embroidered eyes and mouth, and felt gloves and shoes.
PMS Sonic The Hedgehog Plush
In 2011, PMS released a set of classic Sonic plush. They could only be won out of claw machines in amusement arcades around the UK. They weren’t too common, I only ever saw them in a claw machine once, myself. Included in the set were Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose and Dr Eggman. They were made in a minky material with embroidered eyes and vinyl detailing.
